Someone is in trouble and cannot tell you what is wrong.

Emergency SOS turns a visitor's phone into a call for help you can read, act on, and see β€” whatever language they speak.

Written for rangers, sheriffs, police, ski patrol and search & rescue teams. No technical knowledge assumed.

The problem

A visitor is hurt somewhere in your coverage area. They do not speak your language. They cannot name the trail they are on. They may not be able to type at all.

Today that call either does not happen, or it arrives as a garbled phone conversation nobody can act on. You lose the two things that matter most: what is wrong and where they are.

What the person in trouble does

  1. Opens one web page. No app to install, no account, no password. They can reach it by scanning a card, a sign, or a link.
  2. Picks their language, or it is taken from their phone automatically.
  3. Presses one large red button.
  4. Says or types what is wrong, in their own language. This is optional β€” the button alone is enough.
  5. The camera opens by itself so they can take one photo of the scene. Also optional.

Their location is attached automatically. Nothing else is asked of them, because someone who is frightened or injured will not fill in a form.

What you receive

Within seconds, a message on your phone:

A real alert from a live test. Their words are translated into your language. The map link opens where they are standing.

If they sent a photo, it follows a moment later as a second message β€” the picture itself, captioned with what it shows.

The photo, and what is in it

This is the part most systems do not have. When a photo arrives, the system looks at it and writes one factual line for the dispatcher.

Three reasons this matters more than it first appears:

The description is written to state only what is visible β€” how many people, visible injuries, hazards, terrain, weather. It offers no advice and no guesses. It is there to help you decide, never to decide for you.

Where the picture goes

Straight to the channels you chose. If your crew works out of a team chat, the picture itself arrives in the chat, with that description as its caption β€” no link to tap, no sign-in, nothing between your responder and the scene.

The stored copy stays private on our own server and can only be opened by a signed-in responder for your coverage area. It is never public, never indexed, and never shown to anyone outside your team.

Their language, your language

They speak or type in theirs. You read yours. Translation runs on our own machine β€” the call is not handed to an outside translation service.

The original wording is kept alongside the translation, so if a phrase matters, you can see exactly what they said.

How urgent is it? The call is read twice

Every call is sorted into low, moderate, high or critical, twice over:

  1. Instantly, on the words themselves, so the alert leaves immediately.
  2. A few seconds later, when the system reads the call for meaning. If it turns out to be worse than first filed, the severity is raised and you are alerted again β€” clearly marked as an update to the same call.
Why the second pass exists

A real test call read: β€œMy son went under the water by the rocks and he has not come back up.”

Not one alarming word appears in that sentence. Simple word-matching filed it as low. Reading it for meaning filed it as critical, and sent the alert again.

The second pass can only ever raise a severity. It is never allowed to talk an emergency down.

When there is no signal

If the alert cannot get out, their phone does not lose it. It is saved on the phone and the person is told plainly:

β€œNo signal β€” your alert is saved. It will send by itself the moment you have signal.”

The phone then keeps trying on its own. The moment a bar of signal appears β€” walking to a ridge, back toward a road β€” the alert sends itself, photo included. Your alert shows how long it was held, so you know the call is older than the clock suggests:

If signal flickers in and out, repeated sends still arrive as one emergency, not three.

Being straight with you

This is not a satellite messenger. It does not relay between phones. If a phone never sees signal again, the alert never leaves it. What it does do is remove the most common failure β€” one bar, for one second, wasted because nobody was still trying.

You can also set a threshold, so only calls above a chosen severity are pushed out while everything still appears on the board.

A promise about silence

The board tells you, in plain words, which routes are actually working β€” and warns you in red when nothing will buzz. A system that looks fine while reaching nobody is worse than no system at all.

Calls near your boundary

A boundary is a line on a map, not a wall, so the system grades every call by how far it fell from your area:

When nobody has signed up for the ground a call comes from, the person is told plainly on screen that no team covers that spot and to ring their local emergency number. We never show somebody β€œhelp is on the way” when nobody was paged.

Your coverage area

You give us a centre point and a radius β€” a park, a county, a mountain, a stretch of coast. Calls from inside it come to you and nowhere else, and calls from well beyond it never reach you at all β€” as set out just above.

You also choose a short prefix for your own grid naming, so locations read the way your crew already talks about them.

Getting it in front of visitors

You get a one-page poster with a large QR code and your area's name on it. Print it, laminate it, and fix it where people set off β€” trailheads, viewpoints, boat ramps, lift stations, hotel desks.

A scan also tells us which area the visitor is standing in. That matters more than it sounds: when a phone refuses to share its location, the poster they scanned is a location, and the call still reaches you.

No poster needed either

The page opens from any link, so it works just as well on your own website, a printed card, or a sticker on a sign you already own. There is nothing to install at any point β€” not for you, not for them.
